Fluid Mechanics: Papermaking Fundamentals
The track will focus on fundamentals of cellulose-based materials and related production processes. This will include the latest research developments in understanding of cellulosic fibres and their interaction with other components, process phenomena, and material functionality, with a focus on both traditional and novel materials.
Suggested session themes include:
- Fundamentals of new, cellulose-based materials
- Novel process fundamentals (foam forming, flexible production, advanced forming techniques)
- Fundamentals of strength development with wood fibers (exploiting the strength properties of cellulose, hemi-cellulose, and lignin)
- Fundamentals of press dewatering
- Fiber-based strength additives (nanocellulose, highly fibrillated pulp and other novel methods)
- Fiber suspension dynamics in papermaking processes (including advancements in CFD modelling)
